Meet Mambo Intern Erika Marquez

We’re so excited to be working with a new group of Mercury Mambo interns in 2015, meet Erika Marquez!

Hometown: Ben Bolt, Texas

College/University: St. Edward’s University

Major/Minor/ any other focus: Graphic Design with a minor in Art

MM: What’s your education focus?

Currently my education focus is in graphic design. At my university we are taught how to think about design conceptually and how it can be used to solve problems in our everyday lives. In addition, I am minoring in Art because I have always loved to use my hands to create things and I wanted to be able to incorporate what I make into my design work, specifically my illustration work.

MM: How did you hear about Mercury Mambo?

I heard about Mercury Mambo through my internship and career guidance counselor, Andrew Harper. Mercury Mambo attended a Meet the Advertising Agency Event at St. Edward’s a few years back I believe, and he recommended that I get into contact with them for an internship. The rest is history.

MM: As an intern – what is the single most important thing you’ve learned so far at Mercury Mambo?

So far I have learned that you can bring to life anything that you set your mind to. All you need is some hard work and dedication. And don’t be afraid to ask questions if you need help!

MM: Where would you like to take the lead in the Advertising Industry and why?

I want to be able to make a positive impact in the advertising industry by creating work that properly representing the targeted audience. Wherever my life takes me in the future, I hope to create work induces a positive experience for the audience.

MM: What is the most challenging thing about juggling school and work?

The most challenging thing about juggling school and work is finding time to wind down. I am always on the go and I have a hard time learning how to relax. Even when I do have free time, I feel like I should be getting some kind of work done. Slowly, I’ve been trying to teach myself that it’s okay to take breaks and putting that into practice.

MM: Single activity that has most prepared you for this internship?

My education at St. Edward’s has definitely prepared me for this internship. From the challenging coursework that I’ve been assigned, to the guidance from my counselors and professors, I feel all that has helped me prepare for this opportunity at Mercury Mambo.
